4.12.06

happy day o birth big brother.

here's to you being older than me :)

30.11.06

wait for it

it's almost time for a chauncey family portrait....

20.11.06

ain't no sunshine on opto.

we are getting a king size! it goes for days.
i heart it.

coming soon:
*tryptophan fun time with family turkeys

*happy fun time with jack daniels

10.11.06

technology is stupid.

except for robots.

i hate communication- especially email.

1.11.06

because i feel like whining.

ever feel like you have too much to do?
i have a lot of kerap to do right now but it only makes want to do something else. i have been a decluttering fool for the past couple of days and have been doing everything except that which i need to do which includes:
*finishing my extended case write up for necropsy
*doing an extended case write up for emergency (it's only 3-4 weeks overdue)
*deciding once and for all whether or not i want to do an internship and - if i do- getting all that mess together before december 5th (all that mess being filling out the application, getting letters of recommendation, writing a cv, and deciding where i could uproot our happy little family to for at least a year) -- this is the big one in case you couldn't tell.
*finishing my project for my clin path clerkship which is due in two days and will be put online for all the world to enjoy

oh and...

*study for boards

i have been working on all but have finished nada. i suck. however, i have made my firefox browser so april-friendly.

i can't wait for muxico.

i would like one of these but i don't know what they are for. All of those little words underneath the picture would probably tell me but it can't possibly live up to my imagination so i choose to ignore them. stupid words.

17.10.06

that's shazam.

*first. this picture makes me happy.............

*second. meet leonard: he's a fun loving basset that enjoys scratches, scratching and vocalizing like no other. he's not ashamed of his helmet/bandage or his shave job and he likes to tell you about it. loudly.

*and this is sam (aka my lovebug) who had a history of intermittent coughing for, oh, 3-5 years or so. his entire right lung was collapsed. we took it out but we have no idea why it was that way.
i:
*am losing the find it game.
*cut all my hair off
*am on a soy nut kick. can't get enough.
*am also enjoying the eggs. can't help it
*require more fat pants/movie watching days
*have 51 days until boards
*love running again
*love running with my nano
*am still fabulous despite not having posted in a long time
*am excited about me-hi-co
*will win poker this weekend
*am mentally done with cutting up dead things
*am not physically done until friday. there's a difference
*am going to go learn about parasites now
*am really going to go to sleep now

29.8.06

i require cookies daily

some updates:
*i start soft tissue surgery tomorrow...

*my favorite neurology patient scooter (that's scooter patooter to you) has a screaming bartonella infection. the levels of bacteria in his blood have even made this guy excited -- which is saying quite a bit. he's been coming around with his little video camera grinning like this is the best thing ever.

*i started running again (which means i have to get up at five flippin thirty in the a.m) and, in true april style (meaning impulsive and getting too excited too early), have signed up for the new atl. marathon. i know.

*my niece is the cutest thing ever.

* i swung by the surgery wards on my way out today to check out tomorrow's appointment schedule... i've got my eye on a 10 o'clock by the name of herschel. i'm going to go ahead and guess that it's a bulldog but i could be wrong.

*my feet are looking pretty bad. i am treating meself to a pedicure. one day. maybe soon.

*i need a haircut. bad.

*i'm sounding pretty attractive right now with the bad feet and the crystal gale hair...

*my parents' new house rocks and the eating is good.................

28.8.06

because

one day i will post something new.

29.6.06

it's official.

happy day o love to team leggett!

22.6.06

good bye med II. hello surgery.

now don't be alarmed.... sunspot 896 has dissolved.

in other news:
i have the cutest surgery patient ever.
sadie the boxer managed to impale herself on a stick while out and about one day. sadie is now in ward E.23 sans stick. sadie is also quite shy and will not use the bathroom with anyone near her. however, i can't let her off leash because she has tubes coming out of her body and she will chew at them if given a chance. didn't go to the bathroom all day. poor poor sadie.

my first truly difficult client update:
*has an appointment on monday for a dang ole nephrectomy man. guess who the lucky student is that gets her? yes. correct. me.
*lives in macon. i gave her mom and dad's phone number and address in case she wants someone new to complain to
*has me doing pull ups and dead lifts (cape fear style) in case i have to smack her in the mouth -- the chicken wing is looking tough (will be. sometime. in the future)

8.6.06

because i should be doing something else.

what have i done today?
* given about five enemas (i'm pretty good at them because i gave 3 or 4 yesterday. lucky me.)
*ate lunch around 7pm
*discharged a sweet dog with a less than sweet owner (my first truly difficult client. single tear trickling down my cheek....)
*tried to explain to an owner over the phone that i could not tell if their already neurologic dog had neurologic side effects from a medication
*found sweet treats in my freezer. i heart team leggett. they heart my sweet tooth. it's a good situation.

what am i doing now?
*soaps
*reading about stuff
*sulking at the empty house around me

what will i do tomorrow?
*enemas
*spend 18million hours in endoscopy
*read stuff
*bask in sweet, sweet ignorance (smiling all the time.)

what will herschel do?
1. will he dance the whirling dervish in out west?
2. will he shine in his upcoming star trek movie?
3. will he be able to post a picture of the week?
4. will he be forced to open the emergency box of granola bars?
5. will his luggage be ripped apart to get at the jumper cables inside? (yes. jumper cables...he's all mine ladies, step back.)

16.5.06

stacy!

i've really got nothing much to talk about but it's been awhile hasn't it?
anyhoo.

things i've done:
*the bodies exhibit
*cleaned off my desk
*slept
*did my three weeks in large animal surgery -- no kicks to the head thank you very much
*showed a few horses the chicken wing
*ditched the green barn polo
*mastered the art of the epidural (okay not really but i've done a few)
*have probably figured out where one of the immunity herschels is
*dropped my phone in a grate in the barn. dropped the grate on the phone
*got a new phone
*some laundry
*slept at the lake
*i like scotch. it's charlie's fault.

things i'm going to do:
*one and a half more weeks in anesthesia
*sleep (at home, at the lake, in the car on the way to somewhere)
*start running again. at some point. maybe soon. maybe not
*some more epidurals
*sell the green polo
*go pick up that immunity herschel and most likely find another one because i'm just that good
*some more laundry
*keep my desk cleaned off
*eat ice cream everyday. so far so good
*shoot monkey in the face with a mean stream of water every morning until she shuts it up
*pretend that i'm going to start studying for boards soon

renauld update: doing very well thank you. some would say thriving.

12.4.06

marsha marsha marsha.

You Are Jan Brady

Brainy and a little introverted, you tend to think life is a lot worse than it actually is.
And while you may think you're a little goofy looking, most people consider you to be a major babe.

my sleep schedule is kaput. i'm a little wired right now but i'm sure large animal surgery is going to fix that.

coming home soon people. prepare for my arrival. i shall need cookies, beer, carrots and hummus and fellowship (or a hamburger or something).

renauld has recently decided to undergo some plastic surgery. he watched remo williams and felt inspired.

patients that i can remember right now:
*wayne -- stray, fractured radius/ulna, a bonafide skin scrape bonanza
*katie - boxer. had her first litter last week, bleeding from the mouth, collapsed -- nasty bleeding ulcer in her mouth, heart is fine (shocking)
*maddie -- rottie -- submandibular edema that has spread down her front legs, lethargy, coughing, v/d -- lymphoma/tick borne disease?
*tinkerbell - long haired chihuahua (i'll admit that she's cute) v/d
*la la - parvo pit puppy
*mrs. lady -- parvo puppy- wire haired terrier. think snatchel cute
---our isolation is in the running for cutest isolation patients of the year---
*roxie - v/d/lethargy/possibly addisonian
*spanky -- IVDD dachsund
*jake - IMTP -- actually turned out to be malignant hepatic histiocytoma. bad stuff.
*niki - aspiration pneumonia or traumatic swelling of the glottis or both
*princess- CHF, big time respiratory distress
*tucker - back
*lucy - greyhound with a fibrocartilagenous embolism
*machka - pulmonary edema, possibly HCM (her sedation for a cardiology consult made her evil. and hungry)

i'm going to try and make myself go to sleep now.

10.4.06

it is officially april 11th.

this painting is entitled "ebs on vacation". i've never seen eb on vacation so i can't comment on the authenticity or accurateness.

happy birthday ebs. hope you have a good one and that you have not grown facial hair in my absence.

coming soon...
* patient updates
* renauld's website
* current mental status
* and more!

9.4.06

ain't no sunshine...

okay so i'm a little popo that the hubs is gone. whatever.
at least i've got work to keep me busy....

patients that i can remember:
goldie- euthanasia gone very very wrong
mrs. flanagan - swollen paw from a too tight bandage
coco -- congestive heart failure
abigail -- acute renal failure
reese -- idiopathic epilepsy
jake -- yikes. platelet count of 1000, might be tick borne
samson -- coughing
lou lou -- dystocia
runner -- intravascular hemolysis and anemia
boomer -- back again. see previous post
daniel -- cushing's?
pokey -- pericardial effusion
drummer -- right atrial mass and pericardial effusion
zollo - pulmonic stenosis, patent foramen ovale, massive pericardial and pleural effusion
killian -- a knight (in full armor) stepped on her paw -- i couldn't have even made that up

i'm missing some but i can't think of them right now. i just woke up for the love of god.
i've been told that i should update on the patients so i'll try and do that next week b/c it's just not happening right now. (be warned that many of my patients were euthanized. so many, in fact, that i told the one of the doctors that i wasn't working with her any more)

when i woke up this morning my eyes were all puffy and felt swollen shut. now that's some hard sleeping.... hopefully my brain will wake up soon

the roomies (there's a new guy. raphael. austrian? ) went to the coast. jealous

i just checked on renauld. he's been hanging out on the porch since yesterday. he's hoping the sun comes around soon b/c it was a little chilly last night. he's a very sassy little plant. i think he would complain a lot if he could and i think this is what renauld probably looks like in the plant world.

2.4.06

w-i-r-e-d.

things i wish:
*that uga had digital radiography b/c it is freaking great
*that i could get a link on cb's hub's site. what does it take for the love of god? is it not enough *that i'm the wifer of his doppelganger? sheesh.
*that people wouldn't feed their animals raw diets
*that it wasn't daylight savings time yesterday b/c i could've used that extra hour of sleep
*that my feet didn't have a funk emanating from them.
*that other people would post besides me, herschel and team leggett. are you intimidated by our fabulousness? it's okay, we don't judge.

**i can pick out lots of stuff on ultrasound now. by my standards that makes me pretty great.

patients:
cody - aspiration pneumonia -- euthanized
murray -- attacked by 3 dogs

ebenezer-- owners FED him a pork chop bone -- a huge chunk o change later and i'll bet they won't do that again
fergie the fat dachsund - mucometra
louie
frosty

i give... can't remember....must sleep... now...

31.3.06

madeleines and tuiles and parcels oh my!

who rocks? erin kile does!
there's nothing better than a box of sweets...

ongoing patient roster:
*britches -- hbb (hit by boat. no lie) pneumothorax
*meka -- pyometra (11 yr old husky. the rdvm told the vet he wanted her to lose 10 pounds before he would spay her. instead she gained 10 pounds in pus -- okay slight exaggeration)
*oliver? meningitis
*bubster -- fat cat-- but don't remember what happened. i think vomiting and good old diarrhea but it's my favorite name so far.
*willis -- spinal fracture with complete cord transection -- euthanized? nope.

i got to do a nasal oxygen tube and thoracocentesis ( or chest tap but thoracocentesis sounds fancier and it's my first one so i'm feeling fancy) on 'hit by boat britches'.
i did good.

i was trying to find a neat-o picture for the occasion but instead i found a way to learn my multiplication tables....

i bought some microwave popcorn but there's no microwave. i knew that too.

i went running at umstead park today. it was pretty and i'm still out of shape. it's okay because i'm still pretty damn fabulous.

30.3.06

greetings, suckas, from the land of north carolina

i finally met the girl who's house i've been staying at for the past 4 days. she has a super cute pupper named nugget.

what have i learned in the past five days? that's an excellent question.
* i lose things. easily. the first day i lost a pen, my calculator and my stethoscope. while i'm not too worried about the first two, the latter has me severely stressed out and i've kind of become obsessed with finding it. i scare april.
* i miss herschel
* high point, nc has a ginormous chest of drawers with a couple of socks hanging out of it. it's as big as house
* i seriously can't remember things i've learned in the past 3 years.
* i like raleigh.
* i am out of shape. i've been running twice since i got here and my ego deflated.
* nc state's vet school seems nicer than uga's and they are getting a new one in the next 5 years. we are getting a new one in the next century...maybe
* i miss herschel
* i have rediscovered that a bagel with honey peanut butter makes a decent meal when you need it to.
* i was told that i am the emergency magnet
* when i first got here, i was told that i was the only student on emergency but then one other student showed up. that's something i guess.
* still missing herschel
* your dad will make fun of you. that's his job sometimes

here's some names of patients i've seen this week: this is probably more for my benefit than yours so that i can try and remember what i've seen but it's my blog so i'll do what i want and you can skip it if you want. suckas ( i don't know why i'm saying sucka so much, i just am. deal)
puddy - hepatic lipidosis
bebe - gastric ulcers
rascal - can't remember
muffin - probably a brain tumor
ayla - infectious hepatitis
snoopy - acute renal failure
molly - lymphoma
zac - encephalitis and meningitis

big fat grey cat that got advantix instead of advantage ( shaky twitchy fat cat is how i knew him)
and i'm having trouble remembering now so i'm going to go learn some things.

24.3.06

productive little me.

it's 8:13 (that's a.m my people) and what have i accomplished?

* i am up
* i am dressed
* i have taken the puppers out/fed the cats
* removed a tick. ewwww. (from astro)
* balanced the checkbook
* gone on location and submitted my photo answer proof for dh's pic o the week (that's extry points fer me)
* waiting patiently for the bank to open... which brings us to this wonderful posting

*today is my last day o' work -- there's going to be cake and bagels--- and tonight is the of montreal show. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

* i hate parking services. last week i removed myself from the alternative transportation program (you ride a bike they give you a few free passes for the parking deck ) and signed up to be on the waiting list for a regular pass. when i signed up, i was #16. now, i am #20. for the love of god can't a senior vet/graduate student get a little priority in the lot across from where they work? sheesh. i mean, i may have to get the bike back out.

* my scrubs shrank. this is not good for my self esteem.

* i WILL start running again next week. i swear it.

goodbye lovelies.

13.3.06

and then...

there's a lot of recapping to do so here goes: (in no particular order)

ravs recap:
*i heart ravs trips. they're exhausting but so rewarding :)
*the best accomodations ever (casa bainbridge chambers) -- big bed and being in/stepping out of the shower care free-- no bug/weird stain/mold checks/flip flops necessary)
*one fatality (not very common for you non ravs folks) -- bleeding from the retroperitoneal space
*actually knew some of the local volunteers -- (fifth grade teacher, brother's ex-girlfriend, wedding guest) = kind of weird
*some of the most ghetto people ever -- making me proclaim my pride for my hometown (7 people living in a busted/flooded single wide trailer with about 17 animals -- all in bad enough condition that they weren't candidates for surgery. by ravs standards that is pretty bad)
*~90 spays/neuters (14 hours on saturday/9 hours on sunday = tired april)
*the last thing i see before leaving bainbridge -- a pregnant dog crossing the highway. damn.

random recaps/stuff: (i know there's more but my brain is pretty much full at the moment)

*my dental work is done -- our bank account is sad :(
*i am in the process of becoming a master anal gland expresser
*i remember nothing that i've learned in the past 3 years
*i don't mind wearing grown up clothes as long as i can wear baggy-ish cords at least once a week... which i can
*satchel has diarrhea of unknown origin. poor satchel. poor herschel for getting up 3 times last night and slipping in it. poor both of us for cleaning it up all the time. but mostly poor satchel
*i hate looking for green polos more than i will hate wearing them
*clostridia look like wee tennis rackets under a microscope
*i don't eat right
*ever since i've started working, i appreciate beer more
*on my second day of work, i accompanied a distressed dog to uga who proceeded to crash on me in the backseat and die. it was a bad second day. (r.i.p sir drake)
*i'm pretty sure i'm going to win poker (again) on saturday
*while private practice has never appealed to me, i'm learning to appreciate it.
*i've eaten a lot of swiss cheese in the past 3 days
*my new favorite breed of dog is the golden doodle (golden retriever/standard poodle mix).
*i'm very pale and pasty. this girl needs some sunlight.
*i looked for otodectes all day today but i got nothing...

*i'm sending happy thoughts to emily who said good-bye to daisy on march 1st :(

24.2.06

because michelle misses me.

i'd like to take this moment and thank my friend, my mucociliary escalator. mucociliary escalator, without you there would be bacteria partay-ing down in my lower airways. you've gotten me through some tough times and i promise to try and keep you well hydrated from this day forward.

in other news:

* thanks to everybody for my get well wishes (and to eb and team leggett for my ice cream fix)
* thanks to e.kile for egypt in a box (and peanut butter cookies.....trying to save some for chrees but it's getting difficult)
* i woke up this morning feeling pretty good, got my little self together and took off for my last lecture ever... to find that it had been cancelled. so, my last lecture ever was monday. yay.
* yesterday, i had the joy of necropsying a fetal puppy that had schistosomus reflexus....that's fancy talk for "internal organs outside the body". and it was missing it's right front leg but it did have a scapula.

* jansen is in the throes of pacifier withdrawal as we speak. it's a sad world when a kid can't get a paci.

15.2.06

i want my momma!

i am officially working the strep throat over here.
you gotta love it when the doc looks in your throat and says "ew". on the plus side, she gave me all free samples of antibiotics, ear fluid cleaner outer (what 3 years of vet school? that's an official medical term) and atuss.

total cost to me: ten dollar. (this is better than the current dentistry bill)

surely not as cute as this sick kid but he has that "been moping on the couch for a couple o days nursing on fluids" look. and i've been known to point too.

ravs trip to mississippi this weekend not looking so good. i need immediate pampering people! my mom has been doing a good job over the phone but i wish she lived closer :(
herschel has not done such a good job over the phone but he is working against "the mama" who has yet to be beaten so don't feel bad for him. i'm sure he's really looking forward to coming home to infectious lethargic me--but i'll be happy. mmmm... selfish little me.

14.2.06

happy freaking valentines.

i'm feeling the valentines day fever --low grade that is--, i've got a truck (or large stone) in my throat, and hubs is in st. louis....

pitiful me.

10.2.06

a family affair.

happy day o birth to:

jansen (2/9)

AND.....

sis-in-law (2/day)
i couldn't find any pictures without that lump beside you tonja....:)

however, here are some things you get if you google tonja.

i think it makes you a big gunned (bang bang gun and biceps gun) jive turkey boat b/c the internet doesn't lie. happy birthday!
